Bio

I love working with our Level Cross Lions as a Reading Specialist. I work with small groups each day to help the students improve their reading skills. We learn about reading strategies, such as chunking words, stretching sounds in a word, reading the rest of the sentence and thinking about what would make sense, getting our lips ready for the first sound in the word, and using the pictures for clues. We ask and answer questions to improve our comprehension and use the text to prove our answers. The children also work on their writing skills in our guided reading groups.

You can help your child become a better reader by listening to them read at night, reading to them, and asking questions about what your child reads. I usually send home a book each night for the students to read at home. Please sign the reading log and return the book each day. Thank you for your help and support.

On a personal note, I am a graduate of NC State and a huge Wolfpack fan. My husband and two of my children are also State graduates. My other child is a Western Carolina graduate, so occasionally you may see me wearing purple and gold.

I have been in the Randolph County School system for over 25 years and can't imagine teaching in any other system. I started my career at Randlleman High School teaching Social Studies and later switched to the elementary level. I have taught Kindergarten at both Randleman Elementary and Level Cross and later moved to third grade at Level Cross. I love reading, so my current position as a Reading Specialist is a perfect fit for me!

If you have any questions or concerns about your child, please contact me at 495-5915 Ext. 403.
