Construction Workers: 3rd-grade students
Third-grade students at Level Cross Elementary transformed their classroom into an exciting construction zone. They embarked on a hands-on learning experience focused on understanding area and perimeter.
Under the guidance of their enthusiastic teachers, students donned hard hats as they entered the “construction site.” The classroom was decorated with blueprints and measuring tapes, creating an immersive environment that sparked curiosity and engagement.
The lesson started with a brief introduction to the concepts of area and perimeter. The teachers explained that area measures the space inside a shape, while perimeter measures the distance around it. To reinforce these concepts, students participated in interactive group activities where they measured various classroom objects and calculated their area and perimeter.
By the end of the day, students not only grasped the mathematical concepts of area and perimeter, but they also developed teamwork skills, creativity, and a deeper appreciation for how math applies to the world around them. Their teachers applauded their students for their hard work and creativity, saying, “Seeing them engaged and excited about learning is what teaching is all about!”
